About the Round Lundy Rally
On May 16th 2026 sailing boats from all over the Bristol Channel, and further afar, will be converging on Ilfracombe Yacht Club for the 20th anniversary of the Round Lundy Rally.

Like the forthcoming Artemis II moon mission the boats will use the Moon's gravity to "slingshot" their crews around the far side of their destination before returning to base, but in this case, it will be an ebbing and then flooding spring tide helping the crews around Lundy and the distance will be 50 as opposed to 250,000 miles!

The distance may be smaller, but it is still a challenging adventure. Sailors must navigate shifting winds, strong tidal streams, and unpredictable weather, all while enjoying the stunning scenery of the Lundy marine reserve and its famous puffin colonies. Dolphins commonly come along for the ride.

Open to all types of sailboats, the event fosters a sense of inclusivity and community. While there is a competitive element, with prizes awarded for speed and seamanship, the rally is as much about the shared experience as it is about crossing the finish line. Many participants return year after year, forging friendships across the Bristol Channel and swapping stories in the lively after race party held in Ilfracombe Yacht Club. All entrants have a chance of winning the prestigious Trafalgar Trophy with the RYA handicap system ensuring a level playing field (but not necessarily a level sea!).

Early registration is recommended, as places fill quickly.
